Beautiful Large Pine Cone Wreath

If you are looking for a fun and easy holiday craft to do with your children, or perhaps with your class at school, remember that there are fun ideas all around you, and just have to find them. Almost anything can be used to create a wreath, and the finished product will almost always be pleasing as long as you have fun making it. You can buy items from the store for a wreath, but nothing may be more beautiful than using items from nature that you can find your own neighborhood. Just recently my daughter and I made a pine cone wreath and we had a lot of fun doing it.

You can buy pinecones at a craft store to make a pine cone wreath, but you don’t have to pay for them if you don’t want to. My daughter and I went for a walk with a bag around our neighborhood and found all of the pinecones we need to do our project. Just remember to use ones found in public areas, as there are some people who are weird about anyone taking something from their yard, even if it is just a pine cone. Make sure you look them over as you pick them up so that you find ones that are well formed and relatively clean.

You can use anything you want for the base of your pine cone wreath. We used a ring of cardboard for ours, and it worked quite well. Using glue gun, I helped her glue the pine cones to the cardboard. I didn’t allow her to use the glue gun unsupervised because the tip gets quite hot. She did well though, and had a great time choosing what pinecone she wanted to go in each spot. We allowed the pine cone wreath to dry overnight and then we went about decorating it.

I had some stuff put away for future crafts, but you can use anything you wish to decorate a pine cone wreath, or you can leave them plain if you wish. We used plastic berries and red ribbon to decorate the pine cone wreath, and then hung it on the wall when it was finished. My daughter feels a special pride when she looks at it hanging there, and your kids will too. You can buy a pine cone wreath in many places, but a homemade one will always be special to you and your child.
